Gold Coast Broadcasting uses Covad Wireless to power online streaming and telecommuting
San Jose, CA – Jan. 18, 2007 – Executives for Covad Communications Group Inc. (AMEX: DVW), a leading national provider of integrated voice and data communications, spoke during two panel discussions today at the Wireless Communications Association’s (WCA) 13th Annual International Symposium and Business Expo at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, CA. Covad is California’s largest provider of fixed wireless broadband services for businesses.
Lee Gopadze, vice president, Wireless Operations and Engineering for Covad Wireless, participated in a discussion titled, “Applications and California Initiatives That Expand Carrier Footprints.” Eric Warren, director of wireless marketing, spoke on “Effective Marketing Campaigns for New Entrant Carriers.”
“Wireless broadband is a crucial component of Covad’s hybrid access strategy, which gives us an expanded portfolio of products and a broader range of business solutions, and allows Covad to improve both the customer experience and our margins as we grow our business,” said Gopadze. “The WCA conference provides an ideal venue to share knowledge among many different industry participants so we can provide our customers with the best possible wireless broadband experience.”
“With its fast installation times and flexible high-bandwidth potential, fixed wireless broadband can better meet the specific needs of many business customers,” said Warren. Covad Wireless customers include Gold Coast Broadcasting in Ventura, California, which owns six radio stations in Southern California and is the largest independent radio broadcasting company in Ventura County.
Chip Ehrhardt, executive vice president of Gold Coast Broadcasting, said: “In our business, a high-speed internet connection and flexibility is essential, so we knew that wireless was the way to go. Covad’s Super-T product provides fast, symmetrical service that suits our needs perfectly.”
Gold Coast came to Covad looking for a flexible, dependable way to connect the studio to remote employees. At the same time, Gold Coast required a high-bandwidth service that would allow its stations to stream over the Internet.
“In this case, the connection is mission critical. The slightest of hiccups will severely disrupt the streaming experience,” said Erhardt. “In addition, I needed our telecommuting employees to have the same capabilities as those working in the office. Those are two very different challenges, and Covad is the solution to both.”
Covad is a leading nationwide provider of integrated voice and data communications. The company offers DSL, Voice Over IP, T1, broadband wireless, Web hosting, managed security, IP and dial-up, and bundled voice and data services directly through Covad's network and through Internet Service Providers, value-added resellers, telecommunications carriers and affinity groups to small and medium-sized businesses and home users.
